Proficiencies

In this campaign it is important that characters utilize the Proficiency system from the PHB. I feel that the system is sort of unbalanced in that starting characters of different classes receive an uneven number of starting proficiencies. So as a house rule I have made the number of starting proficiencies a bit more even. Fighters gain the same amount of weapon/non-weapon proficiencies as in the PHB but the remaining classes are given extra to balance the table somewhat.

Nonweapon Proficiencies: All NWPs listed in the PHB and the Complete Handbook series. if you do not find a specific NWP from one of those sources please ask about it as it may have been left out in error (though it will still require GM approval). The descriptions for all non-weapon proficiencies are arranged alphabetically in the links below. They are nor grouped according to character class. Each description gives a general outline of what a character with the proficiency knows and can do. Furthermore, some descriptions include rules to cover specific uses or situations, or exact instructions on the effects of the proficiency.

Proficiency Charts

The charts below are grouped according to class. In all cases you class will allow you to take proficiencies from the General list and and the list of it’s class type or types without penalty. Your character can also take proficiencies from other class lists (cross class lists). The penalty for taking a proficiency on a cross-class list is 1 additional slot (meaning that your PC must pay one more than the listed slot cost for cross-class proficiencies).
